The Glass Family

The Glass family gets together for Christmas to have dinner and exchange gifts, a tradition that started at their Grandmother’s house growing up, with seven children and extended family. Over the years as the families grew and spread out they took turns hosting, changing cities and homes, or renting locations such as the Garvin House, Parks and Rec or Houchens House.

When grandkids came along their mother started a tradition of introducing Kwanzaa to the kids, explaining what each principle meant. She also read “Twas the Nice Before Christmas” to all the little children. Christmas breakfast at their parent’s home was the most important tradition and included sausage balls, pinwheels, bacon and eggs, fried potatoes, their great grandmother’s rolls and hot chocolate for the kids. For their dad, their mom would cook oysters. Their grandmother’s from-scratch roll recipe was passed down and is now made by Tamara Glass.

As their parents and several siblings have passed they continue the tradition of getting together as often as they can for Christmas, but leave gift giving to immediate family. This year’s celebration will include Tamara Glass, Chuck and Lynnita Glass, Paige Glass, Robert Johnson, Chris Glass, Jane Higdon, Chandler Glass and Dane Higdon.
