The Olde Stone neighborhood in Warren County provides residents with a wonderful, walkable community with amenities that rival any high-end vacation resort and appeal to a wide variety of people looking for their dream home. One local family recently purchased their forever home in the community and utilized Ford’s Furniture and designer Clarissa Smith to furnish and decorate the home to create the perfect mix of beautiful décor and comfortable living.

The homeowners purchased the four bedroom, five and a half bathroom house, with just over 7,000 square feet, this past February. Built in 2015, the previous owners took immaculate care of the home and it was move-in ready for the new family. When it came time to begin to search for new furnishings, the new owners called Smith, who is a friend, to help them outfit their new space.

“She had a vision of some of the things she liked,” Smith says. “She sent photos, we talked about it, and we met together to go over details. I knew she wanted a couple of sofas with the fireplace. The sofas we chose make a statement and they have so much charm and character. The great room is large and also I knew we would need a bigger piece for dining, but we didn’t want anything that looked heavy or woodsy looking.”

The Tuscan-style home is full of natural light, so Smith and the homeowners focused on lighter, brighter décor, a contrast from their previous home that featured lots of dark wood. Smith found an almond-colored table and cloth-covered chairs to use for dining seating. She also focused on mixing metals and adding pops of color in the artwork and floor coverings.

“I told the homeowners that we needed a great piece to go over the fireplace to bring color to the room,” Smith says. “We wanted art that was soft, but bold and this print gave us that. Gold is so big right now, with mixing metals, so this was perfect. We also ordered a custommade rug from India that will go great in the room and tie everything together.”

The homeowners’ bedroom on the main floor features high ceilings and nearly entire wall-length windows with a view of the beautiful backyard and the golf course in the distance. They chose bedroom furniture to fit the large space and Smith helped to add details to make the space feel cozy and inviting.

“If you take away the lamps, the rugs and the accessories, all you have is a piece of furniture with no love. You must show the love in a home. It’s like the icing on top of the cake. We had lots of accessory pieces here when they moved in, so it felt lived in and comfortable almost immediately after they got in the home.”

Some of the homeowners’ favorite spaces in the home is the screened-in porch area and the adjacent sunroom space. They say it is the perfect space to entertain family and friends and is quiet and peaceful all the time, despite living in a neighborhood with neighbors not far away.

The home features a basement area that is a great hangout space for the couple’s children and friends. It also features an oversized storage area. The couple has utilized the basement and mudroom areas to showcase a few pieces of Bowling Green nostalgia that means a lot to them and their family. A Houchens antique sign hangs in the home to pay homage to a family member that dedicated many years to the company and a set of old lockers from Houchens Industries L.T. Smith Stadium, from pre-renovation, are featured in the basement.

Family is a priority for the homeowners and this house caters to that priority in every way. Both of their children have separate bedroom areas that provide them a bit of space, while also showcasing their personalities and seasons of life. The family loves that everyone has their own space and that they have enough space in the house to host large extended family gatherings.
